Why Do Roofers Have Varying Estimates?

You’ve been in this situation before: you’re trying to get the best price for a roofing project, so you shop around for roofing contractors. When you look at the quotes, you’re surprised to see that the quotes have varying fees attached to them. Why is it that the fees vary depending on the contractor? What are the factors that affect this?

Different Locales

The very first thing that could be affecting the quote is your location. If you live in an area with plenty of clients, you may be in for a little bit of a shock. The contractors in the area may be trying to free themselves up for more expensive jobs from your neighbors, so if you encounter a quote with a higher than usual asking price, then they may be trying to gently dissuade you from working with them.

On the other hand, they may also be quoting low if there’s a large number of competing contractors in the region. This is especially true when there are fewer local projects to work on, or if the season is one wherein people don’t normally get home renovation projects done.

Overestimation and Priority Pricing

It can also depend on how conservative the contractor is. For example, one contractor might conduct roof inspections and give you a fee that is overestimating the potential cost of a project. Another contractor might conduct the same inspection, and come up with a different price that’s more conservative.

Also, you should remember that different contractors will have different tie-ups with various manufacturers. Because of this, some contractors might have preferential rates or promotional tie-ups with some manufacturers and their products.

Insurance

The last thing that could be affecting the price of the contractor’s quote may be whether they have insurance available or not. Contractors with insurance will naturally be charging higher rates for fixing your gutters; however, this added expense always goes back to your protection.

Here at My Roofing, that’s all we’re interested in: protecting your interests. So if you’re interested in getting an estimate for your project, drop us a line through our contact form. You may also call us at (817) 912-5500. We look forward to helping you!
